This week I finally started my research project. I went out with my mentor around campus and collected three samples from 3 separate locations. These will be my known samples for the project. I initially wanted to retrieve more samples, but I believe 3 is plenty. Next week, I will ask my mentor to gather up a sample from one of the three locations to compare, which will be my unknown sample. I will be examining the different soils for color, particle size, and visual composition. I’m really excited to conduct this experiment because it will give me a more hands-on experience of what it is like to work in the crime lab.
